The Story of The Jordan Legacy

The Jordan Legacy was born from the hardest of days. On 4 December 2019, Jordan Phillip took his own life at his home near Leeds, aged 34.

In August 2020, Jordan's father, Steve Phillip, formed The Jordan Legacy CIC (Community Interest Company No. 12784768) so that other families might be spared the pain of losing someone to suicide.

What we believe

Discover Our Vision →

Why do we exist?

We exist to raise awareness of suicide — and of the practical actions that schools, workplaces and communities can take to prevent it.

Each year, more than 7,000 men, women and children in the UK take their own lives — and every one of those deaths ripples through the lives of the many people who knew them. Yet research shows that most suicides are preventable.

What drives us

Our vision is a "zero suicide society". By our definition, that is a society willing and able to do all it can to prevent every preventable suicide.

We work through collaboration, talks, education and practical consultative initiatives — because the act of suicide is a practical act, and it needs practical actions to prevent it.

A story shared with millions

Steve's lived experience has reached audiences around the world. In a powerful filmed interview produced by Adam Smith and Adam Mayhew of the A-Game Consultancy, Steve shares the story of the day he received the call about Jordan's death.

The interview explores the tell-tale signs that someone may be struggling, and why men in particular need the right environment to open up. It is a must-watch for anyone who wants to understand suicide from a lived experience perspective.

Jordan's Place – a centre for hope

Before he died, Jordan told his partner that if he ever won the lottery, he would invest the money in "a place where people who are struggling with their mental health could go to and get well again".

We want to make Jordan's dream a reality. Jordan's Place would be a centre offering peace, peer support, lived experience learning, on-site therapists and wellbeing activities — from sailing and archery to painting and time in nature.

If you believe you can help fund, design or build Jordan's Place, we would love to hear from you at hello@thejordanlegacy.com.
