Our Impact on Suicide Prevention in the UK

Since 2020, The Jordan Legacy has grown from one family's loss into a national voice for practical suicide prevention. Here's what your support has helped us achieve.

The challenge we're tackling

  • More than 7,000 people die by suicide in the UK each year — with no significant downward trend for almost 20 years
  • Suicide is the biggest killer of adults under 35
  • Each suicide affects an estimated 135 or more people, meaning around a million people in the UK are touched by suicide loss every year
  • For every death, around 20 people make a suicide attempt

These numbers are exactly why we act — and why we believe collaboration can finally change them.

Ground-breaking research

In 2023, we interviewed dozens of individuals and organisations: heads of national charities, mental health and suicide crisis team leads, campaigners, consultants, and people with lived experience of suicide.

On 11 July 2023 — what would have been Jordan's 38th birthday — we published our 84-page report, "Moving Towards a Zero Suicide Society", with its 10 Big Ideas for a Zero Suicide Society. Suicide prevention leads described it as ground-breaking.

A national network born

In 2024, our report's findings sowed the seeds of One Voice, One Hope — a national collaborative suicide prevention network facilitated by The Jordan Legacy, uniting charity leaders, NHS professionals, academics, campaigners and people with lived experience.

On World Mental Health Day 2025, The Jordan Legacy was invited to become an Innovation Partner with The Royal Foundation's National Suicide Prevention Network. Initial seed funding of £10,000 from The Royal Foundation of The Prince and Princess of Wales is helping develop the Knowledge Exchange.

Voices heard at the highest levels

Steve Phillip has been invited to speak about suicide prevention to the Government's Cabinet Office, the Department of Health & Social Care, the Home Office, the MOD and other Westminster departments — as well as corporate businesses and the military.

Through Steve's LinkedIn audience of more than 60,000 followers, our message continues to reach millions around the world.

Education, every week of the year

We deliver honest, engaging talks in workplaces, education centres and community groups — helping people spot the signs and hold supportive conversations. Donations from businesses enable us to speak in schools and community groups who don't have a budget to make a donation.

We also host our bi-annual Hope for Life Conference, online panel events, and maintain widely used Help & Resources pages for those who need support.

The difference it makes

"Your resilience is inspiring. Jordan's legacy is saving many lives and restoring faith in many people's lives. After attending the conference in February 2021, it changed my life." — Mark
